Today I want to continue on this path of love. I call it a path of love as it can lead you to freedom, in the same way that there is the intellectual path where you can just choose analysis, mental contemplation to get to a place of freedom. Love can also take you there.
Those who are involved in the intellectual path sometimes do not display emotion. Ultimately when they reach that state of freedom, emotions flow in a very pure and profound way. They become mellower, so to speak. They become more appreciative of the Universe when they touch the final centre. On the path itself they tend to be more detached, more aloof from the world, or elevated. They tend to be detached in the way of even letting go of the physical and relationships around them. But the path of love is different. It seeks to embrace that which is around. It seeks to energize the world around it. It seeks to use the world itself as a way of going deeper. The path of love is not an easy path. That’s why intellectuals may seem to move away from it. It can be painful because it carries the lessons of conditional love.
When you choose the path of love, the love begins in a conditional way. You become attached to some object of love. And of course, any form of attachment is going to bring pain. So, when you get into the conditional love that has attachment and possession, pain is going to come and then those who are intellectual will say, “I don’t want this pain; let me detach myself and let me go deeper to find myself.”
However, there are those who say, “Let me feel the pain because I believe in the love”, and pursue in a selfless way, wanting to give more than receive, wanting to feel the pain of love and be purified by it, to learn the lessons. They are going to come to a space of what we’ll call “unconditional love.” Love itself will become the teacher. Love itself will become the guide and it will also take them to that state of perfection.
This path brings a wonderful energy to the space around it. It does not seek to neglect; rather it seeks to embrace. So, for example, love allows you to build a relationship with your physical body. If you begin to think of your body as a community of tiny cells, and think of them as entities that serve you, when you begin to embrace them as a part of you, you want to take care of them. You want to be kind to them. You don’t want them to feel pain. So your love begins to allow you to embrace the body and to create harmony, balance or well-being in the body. And apart from that, if you become detached, then you allow your body to suffer whatever it is, and say, “Well, the body is the body, it is material; it’s going to perish. It’s not worth the feeling of being attached to it.”
But embracing the body and embracing the cells, you learn more about them and you are able to create harmony with them. Your conditional love may grow into unconditional love as you really extend love to them. When you extend love then you are not afraid of growing older. As the cells begin to grow older you tend to love them more, and when the body is about to die even if it has to or when it must, there is so much more love for the physical.
Love allows you to really appreciate and embrace your world. That’s why love is such a powerful force in healing, because it seeks to embrace, to hold, to support.
Do you embrace the path of love?
Do you use it to energize the space around you and your physical body?
Or are you on the intellectual path, are you more detached from your body and everything around you?
Come share your thoughts and experiences!

[Best Miao (Hmong) Songs] Ayouduo – Dancing till Day Break
English lyrics translated from Miao(Hmong) language:
My dear brother came to my village.
The village became bright.
The girl had a great shape.
The boy was really great-hearted.
When sun went down, we danced and sang songs together.
Playing Ancient Gourd Violins, we danced till the day break.

About Ayouduo: I use songs to wash away my mother’s sorrow
Ayouduo is not unacquainted to most of the Chinese. When Miao’s “Flying Song” flied all over Qiandongnan, China and the whole world, many people remembered the name of this beautiful “Miao’s Little Philomela”.
When Ayouduo appears on the stage, she always dresses in rich attire of ethnic Miao. Her sweet smile is always happy and enchanting. Her melodious songs are like flowing water and floating clouds, clean spring water flowing down the valley, and tiny beads falling on a silvery plate. She is just like a butterfly skillfully flying in people’s hearts with her mellow voices.
The first impression of Ayouduo is: joy. However, those who know Ayouduo’s life understood that her childhood was not so easy, if not full of bitter.
On April 29, 1980, Ayouduo was born in Huangping County of Guizhou Province, a Miao village known as “a world of songs and a sea of dances” in deep mountains. When she was 3 years old, her two brothers died of illness. Shortly after that the disease claimed his father’s life. Only she, her three sisters and her mother were left, depending on each other for life. A few years later, the three sisters were married to other places, leaving her and her mother struggling to live a poor life.
Her mother has been living in a shadow of sadness. Too many unfortunate and suffering made the life of her mother and her full of desolation.
Miao people love to sing songs. So her mother sings songs everyday to release the grief in heart. When her mother gets up every morning, she always sings sad Miao songs when she is cooking and preparing food for pigs. The tearful and touching tunes often wake Ayouduo up from dream. Influenced by her mother, she loved singing at a very young age.
During the interview, Ayouduo said with emotions, “When I was young, I sang songs as long as my mother started to sing. I sang joyful songs while my mother sang sad songs. I just wanted to use the joyful singing to give my mother a little more joy, a little less sad.”
When Ayouduo learns some joyful songs from others, she always sings them to her mother. She feels very pleased when she sees a smile appearing on her mother’s mournful face.
Maybe Ayouduo learned many new things about the outside world. She has been looking forward to leaving the deep mountain, to seeing wonderful scenes in the outside world, and to finding her own sky. When she left the small Miao village and worked in big cities, she kept fighting for a better life, for herself and for her mother. She wanted to become a famous singer so that her mother may forget about the past sadness.
Finally, Ayouduo became a “Miao’s Folk Song Queen”, thanks to her natural beauty, her solid training of singing in childhood, her skillful dancing and singing technique, and her willingness to win.
She is a golden phoenix flying out of Miao villages. She is a pride and honor of the people in Huangping County, the people in Qiandongnan Miao & Dong Autonomous Prefecture, and the Miao people!

This emblem was designed by a Miao designer. From upper left to upper right: lusheng (qeej in Miao/Hmong language), butterfly, maple leaf. Lusheng is a typical Miao musical instrument; butterfly mother is the origin of Miao people in Miao legends; Miao people’s first king named Chiyou was locked in a maple shackle by his enemies; maple tree is still considered as a sacred tree to keep village safe in many Miao villages. From lower left to lower right: ox-head dragon and kylin. These two sacred animals are often used as decorative figures in Miao embroidery.
