Living Life After the Death of Loved One

Christianity does both. It is a way of life and the promise of life eternal.

The core of the Church is that the kingdom of God starts now, in the present.
A belief system that teaches its followers to scorn this life and focus only on the afterlife is out of accordance with the gospel. If God’s reign doesn’t start with each of us now, in the world, then it’s not going to start magically in the afterlife.
Jesus told His disciples that "the Kingdom of heaven is at hand." That means now, not later.

Because its ETERNITY. I don’t think people realize that. After we die its Heaven or Hell for EVER. And the only way to assure that we can go to Heaven for eternity is to accept Jesus as our savior. Take him into our hearts. By doing this we are saved and can spend eternity with Him. Why we spend our lives thinking about Heaven is because we are trying to please God and live our lives the way he wants. I am living life to the fullest because its the life God gave to me. but I am also living it to please God. Because that is the MOST important thing to me.

The two are intertwined. We Catholics and several others believe the only way to spend eternity with God is by spending this one living in love and kindness. But we do believe this life is a school for the next.

Teaching? You mean selling their guesses as the absolute truth?
Make no mistake, they are trying to tell people how to live their ""earthly"" lives, especially when it comes to private matters such as sex.

if religions held out the slightest hope that THIS life is good, that we should actually enjoy it, or that the pursuit of pleasure is NOT sinful . . . . they’d all be out of business.

It’s the carrot and stick approach to gaining power over the ones that are gullible enough to believe. Promise them something that is absolutely impossible to deliver and then convince them that they will have to die to receive this wonderful gift. In the mean time they are supposed to give ten percent of their gross income to the ones doing the promising. Amazing, absolutely amazing.

Life after death is eternal. Life on this earth is but a vapour that appeareth for a short while and then vanisheth away. What is more important, the eternal or the temporal?

Eternal life begins on
earth, right now, because what we choose in this life echoes for all eternity. We have only two choices: to choose a life unconditional love or to reject it. True love is unconditional. It is, therefore, selfless and sacrificial. It, therefore, does not make a distinction between friend or foe; will put other’s interest and life ahead of one’s own; will forgive without any limit; will not take revenge; is humble, patient and kind; will never seeks reward for acts of love, because it will see the opportunity to serve others itself as a reward; and will love others even in face of betrayal and hurt. Furthermore, because it is selfless it is free of anxiety, fear, hate, jealousy, greed and lust.
Those who exercise true love respect all human beings irrespective of their appearance or size. They, therefore, respect the humanity of a one cell stage human being (formed at the moment of conception) by recognizing that it is an independent life form with human genes; and has a human life force within it. This life force initiates, directs and sustains a process to take a person through successive stages of development to achieve the fete of transforming that person from a single cell individual to a fully grown human being. This life force is present in us right from the time of conception because without it, we could never grow from a single cell life to a full grown human being with 10 trillion cells, multiple complex systems and a brain with a memory capacity equal to 20,000 computers. Destruction of human beings in their embryonic and fetal stages of life, therefore, is murder. It is also a gross violation of human right because it stops the victim from reaching his/her full human potential.

In order to have true love in our heart we must know what true love is and sincerely desire it. In order to know true love we must internalize the ultimate act of true love, in which God (in the person of Jesus) not only became one of us and shared in our sufferings; but also sacrificed His own life to bring eternal life (Matthew 26:28) to us who rejected Him, were unfaithful to Him and killed Him (by our sins). During His passion He was concerned about the pain and suffering that we would have to face, rather than His own well-being (Luke 23:27-29, 34). Furthermore, just before His death He forgave His executioners (Luke 23:34). By His actions and words He taught us to (Luke 6:27-35) love our enemies; do good deeds to those who hate us; bless those who curse us; pray for those who mistreat us; and if anyone slaps us on one cheek, offer the other. He further taught us to lend expecting nothing back; give to everyone who asks for something; never divorce one’s spouse (Mark 10:11-12); be merciful, just as our Father is merciful (Luke 6: 35-36); if someone takes us to court to sue us for our shirt, we must let him have our coat as well; and we must walk an additional mile if the occupation forces ask us to carry their pack for one mile (Matt 5; 39-41).
Actually that is what they do.
I guess I should only speak about Christianity because it is the faith that I follow, but I believe the others probably follow the same general path.
Believers live their lives using the guidelines established by their faith. They believe that by doing so, they will prove themselves worthy of the afterlife. By following the moral and ethical tenets of their faith, they are living what they believe to be the purest and most fulfilling way of life. Ideally the best way to show this "better way of life" to others is to lead by example. Unfortunately, nobody seems to grasp that notion. We all preach peace, respect and love, but it always has to be done OUR way. As a result, we get people of different faiths killing each other because we don’t agree on how to live in peace.
Kinda backwards, isn’t it?

I have never found that true. Nothing in the Bible actually tells you what Heaven is like other than it’s wonderful. The Bible does tell us to care for others, to keep ourselves pure, and to love God.

why are religions more interested in teaching people more about life after death rather than living this life?
Dont you think its time religions forget about all this after life talk and concentrate on inspiring people how to live this life they have with love and kindness?
