Archive for Shadow Archetypes
What is an archetype?
Please try to describe what an archetype is. I am very curious.
I know I am the Lover archetype, so also please help me understand what that means.
*One more thing: What are archetypal Shadows, and what are they for the Lover?
An archetype is the model of a person, personality or behavior
An archetypal shadow is the opposite of yourself, usually he has qualities you have that you don’t know you have
An archetypal lover is either the anima or animus
Anima is how a man’s dream woman is
Animus is how a woman’s dream man is
What improvements specifically would you suggest for this small bit of blank verse?
Fanúshi Khiyál
On ancient avenues the pilgrims come,
The box perched on their shoulders; it is lit
By candlelight that pierces through the dark.
And there, upon the fragile round they move ―
The painted shadow figures one by one,
In orbit and illumined by the flame,
Yet with no name, transmuting, will become
On each turn of the slow-revolving wheel
Transformed, as if the one where they now went
Had disappeared instead, and they’d become
This other pilgrim on an endless trail
That disappears around the farthest limb.
And where the light itself seems dim and dies
Arise the archetypes we’ve seen before,
Some low and forked, and others proud as kings,
Each slightly altered yet much as before,
All caught up in the endless sad parade
And pageantry within their tiny frame
Until the candle at the very heart,
Which lights the long procession, melts away
And all the darkness of the outer world
Becomes as one with what is in the box,
An empty socket where the warmth still clings
Until this sacred thing of light and dark
And purpose to the world is borne anew.
We are no other than a moving row
Of Magic Shadow-shapes that come and go
Round with the Sun-illumined Lantern held
In Midnight by the Master of the Show.
a quatrain from ‘The Rubaiyat’ (Fitzgerald)
A total re-write, it’s awful. (JOKE).
Haha Peter, you know as well as I do that I would never be in any position to offer improvements upon a poem from the very person I learn my ‘poetic skills’ if you will, from. (I even pasted it into the comment box then deleted it back out again hoping the Yahoo spell checker would give me something to correct LOL).
The only thing I wasn’t too sure about was the use of the past participle ‘borne’, but that’s just me and hey, what do I know about poetry eh?
.
Made for a great read Peter – as usual, keep writing!
What are some great acoustic songs?
I really like songs like "night’s shadow" by becoming the archetype and "pallers anders visa" by in flames, but i can’t find a full album of it, and i really want one, recommendations?
instrumentals only
Try the artist, City in Colour. Any of his albums will do. The self-titled is a good place to start. Try the songs "Hello, I’m in Delaware" and "Save Your Scissors".
Theodore Rotheke’s "In A Dark Time" relation to shadow archetype?
In what specific ways is Rotheke referring to the shadow archetype?
ok
I want someone to see my yugioh Shield Gardna Deck?!? R/F?
My friend made a defence deck and has had it for 5 years and he sold it to me… i got the usual defence monsters for a defence deck, but i tweaked it to make it around the gardna archetype, and it goes like this…don’t hate and tell me to look for a better deck, i have a Destiny hero zombie deck and i just want to make a fun deck since dads take all the fun away…
monsters 17
x3 Big shield Gardna
x3 mid shield gardna
x3 Ghost Gardna
x3 Freed, the matchless general
x3 destiny hero defender
x2 necro gardna
spells 19
x2 chorus of sanctuary
x2 yellow luster shield( i don’t want to depend on the field spell alone)
X2 Continuous destruction punch
x2 unity
x1 reinforcements of the army
x2 the warrior returning alive
x2 weapon change
traps 7
x3 cyber shadow gardna
x1 broken blocker
x3 staunch defender(with unity, otk baby!!!)
This deck is just a shout-out for the lonely archetype, gardna.. if you want to post anything and you don’t care, get a life and actually help someone, if possible for the people who do care, rate and then comment the deck please, think of the gardna….
-1 Necro Gardna (it’s limited)
-1 Weapon Change(does not support Freed, the Matchless General )
-2 Cyber Shadow Gardna
+3 Battle Mania
+2 Stone Statue of the Aztecs (i know you want to stay with ‘gardna’, but this card helps your deck a lot)
What are your opinions on Jung’s theory of religion?
Do you agree with the theory of the collective unconscious and archetypes and why?
Do you agree that modern religion can restrict individuation by repressing archetypes such as the anima and the shadow and why?
Thank you for your opinions ![]()
It’s not homework actually, I’m just interested in psychology
My opinions:
The basis of the collective unconscious concept is shared experiences (archetypes), innovations, "truths" demonstrated by people/cultures that had no communication or trade. Another way to describe it is virtually identical experiences that cannot be explained by interactions between cultures. A group of monkeys that started using a stick as a tool for a particular activity at essentially the same time as a group of monkeys thousands of miles away has been used as an example…
Jung was a bright guy and I really enjoy his ideas. I’m not sure that a shared unconscious mind, a sort of species wide database that can be tapped, is the answer for shared experiences. It could be contextual in that once cognitive development has the opportunity to reach a certain level of development (sufficient food production and storage capacity to allow for the leisure necessary to engage in activities not related to survival); certain ideas are likely to occur simultaneously. In addition, the universal nature of the archetypes may also be the result of reaching a point of cognitive development that allows for the description of dreams (language) and be more simply explained by the similarity of our neural physiology. To put it more simply, all unexplained shared experiences may be the result of the somewhat linear nature of evolutionary cognitive development.
I agree that there are shared experiences that cannot be explained through communication or contact between different groups. I don’t agree or disagree with the hypothesis that it’s the result of a shared unconsciousness, since it can’t be proved or disproved. The collective unconscious is an interesting possible explanation for the observations.
Do you agree that modern religion can restrict individuation by repressing archetypes such as the anima and the shadow and why?
I’m not sure any modern religion represses archetypes or that archetypes can be repressed. Most religions, even the patriarchal ones, have some form of duality. Mary is an example in Christianity and the grandmother/mother/mate/sister/daughter universal is present regardless of religious practice or belief. How or if it is acknowledged or how the anima is interpreted consciously (externally) can be impacted by religious teachings, but the presence of the archetypes cannot be repressed within the internal environment.
The shadow is a different matter and I don’t consider it an archetype in the same way I do the Anima and Animus. Repression of the “darkness” within humans at a low level of moral and cognitive development is desirable for social order and religion provides a valuable purpose in providing a framework for that repression. Jung believed that there is value in exploring the shadow and incorporating/integrating those aspects to create a more holistic “mind”. It’s a challenging thing to do though and can easily spin into societal negatives when explored by those of more limited levels of development. Those that should and are capable of embracing their shadow and incorporating aspects of it are likely beyond the point that they can or will be repressed by religion. In short, yes, religion can repress the shadow.
I suppose that the repression of conscious/external expression of the archetypes and the shadow can restrict individuation; however, the idea that individuation is a "good" thing for everyone is another question. I don’t believe that religion can repress the individualization of those that are cognitively capable of it.
Carl jung archetype help!!!!!!!!?
What happens if the Self’s or it maybe the shadow’s ( the archetypes) wants and needs are ignored???? i remember reading somewhere that you souldn’t ignore them and that something very bad would happen if you did. but i can’t remember what it was. Please help me. What happens????
Nothing is going to happen. It wasn’t important enough that you could remember. If it was, the universe will presents it to you again. You can only control something you have control of. Stop worrying, and don’t take things you have read as written on stones.

The ignored shadow will begin to gain energy. This "shadow" is a part of you, and can’t be removed only accepted/controlled.
If a part of your desires/personality are ignored long enough symptoms like nightmares or even physical discomfort will begin to appear. Eventually the energy builds up and effects behavior, sometime in little habits like nail biting or constant hair brushing.
If the shadow part of you isn’t given a release/acceptance it could even begin to unbalance the mind. Causing self hating behavior, double life and an attraction to the twisted thrills. (stealing, self harming, hatred towards others)
Different shadows bring about different symptoms, a desire for revenge may turn inward to self harm, or a dislike of authority may cause a person to graffitti. In the end by accepting this energy and directing it toward something useful it no longer stays a shadow but enriches your life.
Of coarse this isn’t always easy to do, so lots of people act out in ways they normally wouldn’t if they knew a better way.
the link I left is about a Jungian book I found helpful

@CZ: Yeah that’s the point of these questions. For people to find out about these albums.
@No Picture: Wow you are a dumb*ss. They ARE in alphebetical order by year you f*cking moron. And I listed them so that people would be aware that they don’t have to confine themselves to getting albums from the "golden age" as determined by wikipedia. Does elitist just mean anyone who isn’t a retarded Wayne fan? Why the f*ck are you on this site anyway? You don’t want to learn sh*t about hip hop, you just want to try to look cool by calling out people you don’t know and will never meet. Why don’t you grow up and learn your ABC’s. Dumb*ss.
Edit: Oh yeah and one more thing. "None of these albums are crucial or important". Yeah, obviously not seeing as how they’re not on about.com. That’s why I’m putting them out here, so maybe they become crucial and important. You are a f@ggot who thinks Ready To Die is the greatest album ever, followed only by Tha Carter III (remember you have to like mainstream because you’re not a pretentious elitist. You’re down with Wayne who is "the sound of the ghetto." Even though he’s actually the sound of mansions in the suburbs. Do me a favor, look up Lil Wayne’s demographics on his youtube videos. 13 year old girls listen to Wayne! Dumb*ss.
