How can soul mates exist with the current divorce rate?
Doesn’t really make sense, now, does it? Are humans polygamists by nature? We sure aren’t monogamists. The whole "be my penguin" thing doesn’t really turn out half the time, so the whole soul mate theory has to be thrown out the window, no?
I agree there are many people out there that we can be married to and make it work. We could love them enough to make life pleasant. BUT I DO think we are also given our ONE true soul mate.
I had a boyfriend prior to my husband. I loved him, and I think we would have gotten married and lived a perfectly normal life. The marriage wouldn’t have been too exciting, or too unhappy but it would have been just enough. Right before he proposed I met my husband. We started out friends, went to best friends, and then I left my boyfriend of 4 years because I knew there was something more out there.
My husband and I have been together 15 years, married 12, and I can tell you this marriage is full of passion. We are not perfect we argue, but this love is so full of passion that I never had with anyone else.
I do think we have our soul mate out there, but we do have people with whom we are compatible. That could be why divorce is so high, people marry the ones who they are compatible, and love but not the ONE with which the true passion lies.
Until you experience that type of love, you will never understand
Could someone help me with this poem?
Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journey long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado.
But he grew old,
This knight so bold,
And o’er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado.
1)What does Eldorado most likely symbolize in this poem?
• A. death
• B. fulfillment
• C. beauty
• D. creation
2)Which of these does shadow most likely symbolize in the first stanza of the poem?
• A. adversity
• B. dreams
• C. protection
• D. hope
3) What does the image in the poem’s second stanza convey?
• A. despair
• B. hopefulness
• C. acceptance
• D. regret
4) The journey in this poem is a symbol for life. Which of these best describes this type of symbol in literature?
• A. simile
• B. theme
• C. archetype
• D. diction
1) B
Because the knight is searching for Eldorado (the city of gold), this would fulfill his dream and bring meaning to his life. He is not seeking to be created, beautiful, or dead, only to be fulfilled.
2) A
He is a brave knight in sunshine and in shadows would signify that he is brave in good times and bad. The only word that signifies bad would be Adversity
3) A
Because he has a shadow growing over his heart (in this stanza the lack of hope), he is going to die unfulfilled. There is no proof that he regrets his choice to seek out the city or acceptance of his failure.
4) C
This is the best choice out of the given options, although it is truly not a full archetype. It is definitely not a simile because a simile requires like or as.
Does anyone remember their past life, without regression therapy?
Though many children talk about ‘before they were born,’ they soon forget at around the same time their imaginary friends disappear. Has anyone out there NOT forgotten, but continued to remember?? Have you ever told anyone who you were before?
PS I don’t care if you think reincarnation is even real or not so PLEASE dont start an argument. I just want to know what people think they remember.
To "do I know you" :Nope I don’t remember, but I have many extremely vivid and colorful dreams, particular this nightmare I’ve always had where I am bleeding allot from a heavy injury, rly scary. not that this proves anything, but there you go!
Anyone else have these kind of re-occuring dreams?
I don’t remember anything specific. Although I really think that I may have been murdered in a past life. It’s just a weird feeling I get. Do you remember your past life, or have you ever had a hunch of something that may have happened to you in a past life?
Life Sentence as a PRIOR Felon?
Is how we treat "Prior" Felons in the US fair? Does a "past" felony make a person less of a person for the REST of their lives is my particular question:
OK, you cheat on a test, get caught, you fail that one class, you don’t get your entire education taken away do you? You have the opportunity to make it up and graduate, you don’t get kicked out and refused reentry, do you?
You fail to pay your bills on time, even though you signed a "legal binding contract" that you would, right, so essentially you are stealing or at least defrauding the lenders? So, when do they come and collect your stuff and make sure that you never, ever, get anything on credit again? Doesn’t happen!, at most your credit damaged but is repairable. You might have to wait a few years but you get it back.
You cheat on your taxes right? So what happens? You pay the taxes plus a fine and all is forgotten.
All of these seemingly minor offenses I just mentioned used to be punished as severely as any other crime. Life expulsions, Debtor’s prison, and Tax courts, were all a part of the way societies dealt with those who broke the rules. But we decided at some point that was too severe, so why is a life sentence even fair, or constitutional, and how does the person re-enter society?
Why does Europe focus on Rehab and Restitution but the US seems focused on Retribution? The costs of incarceration of the highest prison population in the world are staggering. I don’t want pay for that and getting nothing in return from persons that can never earn enough to do more than take care of themselves. How does the ban on employment and education opportunities repay me for housing them for any period of time?
I wonder how many of you would be in favor of a graduated system that allows a person to become a "non" felon after time and restitution are done. Seems fair to me, although I would have problem with some crimes. I guess if the person proved themselves worthy I could forgive and forget. The paid there price and served their time so let them move on?
Please don’t focus on just murder and rape, I talking the wider scope; felonies for fraud/larceny, drugs, DUI, etc.. Take this point a person in the US can make a single mistake and that mistake carries on for the rest of their lives, is that fair?
Okay, but 3 strikes and you are out for the rest of your life. Deal?
