He doesn’t care if she comes back as a girl or a boy. This to me is the epitome of a “soul mate.”
The physical is not important, it is only the packaging. It is the content that truly matters.
Okay, I am over-analyzing this, I know. I am just a hopeless romantic who loves this movie!

What possessed the …
What possessed the producers to cast Montand in this role? The original Broadway play character was not French. In 1970, the producers could have found any number of American actor singers who could have pronounced the lyrics right.
